Description

Today, our all-sky camera installed in Munhoz, in the southern region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil (22S 46W), recorded the entry of a large fireball into the atmosphere.

Over the months, many others have been captured, but none quite like this. It also helped that it is a new moon, and we had a wonderfully clear night with absolutely no clouds.

The trajectory of this observatory is still being determined, but there have already been reports of sightings from over 600 km away from this location, and it has been widely covered by the local media. It is always a grand spectacle, but this one was truly spectacular and particularly magnificent.

To put in perspective, the bright dot in the northeast is Venus at its peak brightness. Below the sourthern cross can be easiky seen.

North is up.
